DERITEND INDUSTRIES MOVES FORWARD AS PRE-FORMED WINDINGDS EXPANDS SHEFFIELD PRODUCTION FACILITY BY 20%.

September 2007 sees the start of a building project to significantly increase the capacity of the Pre-Formed Windings division of Deritend Industries. The building work is expected to be completed within 12 weeks providing an additional 1500 sq ft of production area for the crucial taping process, and allowing other areas of production to expand. There are also new job opportunities being created for five specialist skilled personnel and additional support staff.

Based in Sheffield, the company manufactures a huge range of medium and high-voltage windings for large electric motors and generators. Using highly skilled production personnel to manufacture class leading products the company has grown significantly in recent years, exporting over 70% of production. Increases in global demand for electrical generating capacity, the expansion of utilities abroad and continuing demand for large-scale process industry output have driven the high market demand.

Vernon Fletcher, Operations Director of Pre-Formed Windings comments, “A strong demand for high-quality pre-formed windings worldwide has helped our business to grow; increasing turnover by 200% in the last two years. It is the dedication and focus of our workforce however that we believe has allowed us to expand while also increasing profitability.”

New machinery will also be installed, increasing the investment in the business. Pre-Formed Windings was founded in 1968 and so is approaching its 40th anniversary, it is also part of the Deritend Industries group of companies, all of which specialise in supply, maintenance, repair and overhaul services across the spectrum of industrial manufacture and utility sectors from electric motors, generators and drives to gearboxes, pumps power transmission components. The group is particularly strong in the electric motor business; hence there are great synergies between group companies.

Hale CEO of Deritend Industries, comments on the expansion and the importance of keeping production in the UK, “The government has long argued that UK industry should focus on high technology and highly skilled engineering companies that are flexible enough to satisfy changing demand and stay ahead of the market in terms of technology. Pre-Formed Windings is a good example of doing exactly this, but through investing in an existing business. Producing windings for power stations for example is not something a company can decide to do overnight, we have protected our knowledge and skills base within this company and the results are now paying off for us”.
 
Looking to the future, this is only the first stage of expansion planned for Pre-Formed Windings, with increased capacity and further building work already earmarked in the current five year plan.
